Professor Matthias is an Assistant Professor at the School of International Studies at American University and a Lecturer at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). He is a former consultant with the Foreign Investment Advisory Service of the World Bank and the IFC (2005-2007), a consultant for the Economic Intelligence Unit, and has taught economics at American University, the University of Maryland and SAIS where he was also awarded his PhD. He is the author of Ideas and Economic Crises in Britain from Attlee to Blair (1945-2005).
