Now based in Shanghai, Rothman has been China Macro Strategist at CLSA since 2000, and his Sinology newsletter delivers his insights to institutional investors. Rothman first visited China as a student in 1980, and returned in 1984 as a U.S. Diplomat. While working in the State Department in D.C., he also assisted with the normalization of U.S. relations with Vietnam.
He holds a B.A. from Colgate University, and an M.A. in Public Administration from the Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas, and was a State Department Fellow at MIT’s Seminiar XXI program on national security.
