YCW is an all-volunteer organisation focused on connecting and educating the next generation of China thought-leaders through a speaker series and mentorship programme. Since the founding of YCW in 2010, the London Chapter has featured speakers such as Sir Malcolm Rifkind, Isabel Hilton, Cindy Yu, Yukon Huang, Carrie Gracie, Lord Green of Hurstpierpoint, Rana Mitter, Lord Jim O’Neill, George Magnus, and Karoline Kan. London is one of the largest of 10 YCW chapters around the world – with over 700 members out of a global network comprising 5,000.
After a number of successful years, the London chapter is now re-launching its Mentorship Programme for 2022 and we are inviting early career young professionals in the YCW London network to apply to participate in the programme as mentees.
Whilst we are not actively recruiting mentors at this stage, please do feel free to get in touch if you’d like to be considered as a mentor.
DETAILS
Our mentors are drawn from the London network, and are experienced China-professionals from a variety of fields, such as finance, policy, business, journalism, technology, and research. Successful mentees will be connected to a mentor aligned with their interests and career objectives. The programme is an excellent opportunity for prospective mentees to access guidance and knowledge from those with a wealth of experience in China-related work.
The programme will run from January – December 2022, during which time mentors and mentees will have the opportunity to meet regularly to discuss career opportunities, aspirations and growth. Meetings will be both on a one-on-one basis, organised by paired mentors and mentees, as well as with the wider cohort. Throughout the programme, mentees and their mentors will benefit from being close to the wider global and UK YCW community and its exciting activities.
We are looking for individuals who have:
Less than three years of professional experience
Demonstrable interest in and dedication to building a China-related career
Strong organisational and communication abilities
Excellent academic records and employment experience
Based in or near London
If you would like to be considered as a mentee, please email our London Mentorships Director, Hugo Briggs, at london@youngchinawatchers.com by Friday 28th January 2022, with “[NAME] – London Mentorship Scheme Application” in the subject line, with the following:
