YCW is recruiting a Head of Editorial Content!

We are looking for a motivated volunteer to oversee the editorial output from our chapters and associated members and assist with publishing special projects such as the YCW Conference program, selected essays, interviews and more. 

The Head of Editorial Content will work independently, in close collaboration with our Global Leadership Team. The estimated time commitment varies depending on the needs of our chapters, ranging from a few hours per month up to five hours per week in the lead-up to important events on our YCW calendar such as the annual conference.

As one of our few global roles, the Head of Editorial Content has a unique opportunity to collaborate with members across our ten chapters in Asia, Europe and the Americas. As such, you will connect with outstanding young professionals all over the world, in various disciplines such as research, business, government and academia — all contributing to the global conversation on China.

The role grants access to the inner workings of our global network. You will gain insight into the day-to-day challenges and long-term strategy for a large volunteer organization. 

There is an opportunity to grow your own Editorial Team over time.

  • Someone interested in understanding China’s role and impact in the world, and eager to work with the up-and-coming global generation of China watchers. 
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working remotely with stakeholders around the world. 
  • Strong knowledge of or background in copy-editing, content management systems and multimedia platforms.
  • Preferably, experience with video and audio editing software.
  • Preferably, experience conducting interviews.
  • Preferably, experience building and leading a small team. 
  • Preferably, knowledge of and past participation in YCW activities.
  • Commissioning, editing and publishing of YCW editorial content, including but not limited to:
    • Expert interviews (Voices on China)
    • Member profiles (Featured Young China Watcher)
    • Annual YCW Essay Competition
    • Career opportunities
  • Bi-weekly virtual meetings with the global leadership team.
  • Coordinating and facilitating chapter announcements, write-ups and other editorial output.
  • Keeping our website and multimedia platforms up-to-date.
  • Coordinating distribution of editorial content across social media platforms.
  • Recruitment and onboarding of additional editorial team members as needed.
