Join the YCW Hong Kong Leadership Team

Application Deadline: 31 March 2026, 11:59pm HKT

Young China Watchers (YCW) is a volunteer-led global network that connects and inspires people interested in China’s evolving role in the world. Our mission is to build a vibrant community and support the next generation of China-focused thinkers and professionals.

Now Recruiting:

1) Program Directors, YCW Hong Kong
Two years after the relaunch of YCW Hong Kong, we are excited to welcome two new Directors to join our leadership team. As a Director, you will be part of a collaborative and energetic group that curates events, mentorship opportunities, and networking gatherings for China-engaged professionals in the city. This is a volunteer position that usually requires about 4-6 hours per month, with expectation to develop/support an event every 6-8 weeks.

What You Will Do

  • Plan and deliver events from idea to execution, including brainstorming topics, inviting speakers, coordinating logistics, and promoting to our community.
  • Build and maintain relationships with speakers, partners, and the broader YCW network.
  • Occasionally host or moderate events and help grow YCW’s presence in Hong Kong.

Who We Are Looking For

  • You stay curious about current China-related trends and have ideas for engaging events and speakers.
  • You take initiative and enjoy seeing ideas come to life.
  • You are keen to explore how China’s evolving role connects with Hong Kong audiences.
  • You enjoy teamwork and want to contribute to a friendly, purpose-driven community.

When You Apply, Please Share

  • Your China-related area of interest or expertise.
  • One event idea (topic and speaker suggestion) or another creative idea for helping YCW Hong Kong grow.

2)  Mentorship Co-Director (Early-Career Focused), YCW Hong Kong

As YCW Hong Kong passes its two-year mark, we are launching a pilot Mentorship Program in 2026 to better serve China-focused university students and early-career professionals in the city. As Mentorship Co-Director, you will help shape the early-career component of this new initiative, working alongside a collaborative and energetic team to build it from the ground up. This is a volunteer position, requiring roughly 4–6 hours per month, with busier periods during recruitment, matching, and program launch.

What You Will Do

  • Co-design the early-career mentorship component, including defining goals, structure, and engagement formats.
  • Support outreach, recruitment, and mentor–mentee matching for each program cycle.
  • Coordinate communications with each cohort and connect the program with YCW’s wider community events.

Who We Are Looking For

  • You have a strong interest in China and in supporting early-career professionals.
  • You are organized and comfortable managing a few ongoing tasks.
  • You enjoy working closely with others and value being part of a friendly, purpose-driven community.
  • Experience with mentoring (as a mentor or mentee), young professional initiatives, or community-building is a plus but not required.

When You Apply, Please Share

  • A brief background and statement of interest.
  • Any experience with mentorship or young professional programming.
